What is the John Charles Adult Family Home?

Welcome to the John Charles Home. We are a family-owned and operated 6 resident Adult Family Home in Thurston County. We are located in the beautiful South East Olympia, Holiday Hills neighborhood. Our home has been thoughtfully updated to promote independence for our aging residents. 24-hour care and assistance are provided with love and patience for all activities of daily living such as: Dressing, toileting, showering and hygiene, eating, medication management, and social engagement. We welcome and accept residents with a wide variety of diagnoses and medical needs, including dementia and mental health.

What's our purpose?

In the declining months of his life, it was difficult to find the right type of care for John. The assisted living facility he was at didn’t care for him the way his children would have cared for him in their own home. It was alright,, but just did not meet their greatest desire for how their father would finish his amazing life.

For many years prior to John’s declining health, Jamee and Dennese had already been discussing the possibility of operating an adult family home (AFH) Jamee’s exposure to these facilities as a professional firefighter keyed him into the high level of personal care provided in an AFH. In the best homes, the level of care was far superior to anything he saw in the many assisted living facilities and nursing homes he interacted with.  That range of experience coupled with their experience with care facilities at the end of John’s life cemented their desire to open their own AFH that would, without question, provide the level of care they desired for their loved one. Dennese and Jamee shared the idea of opening an AFH with Scott and Grace, and their collective plan began to take form.

As John Charles Naegle’s legacy and in honor of him, we thoughtfully prepared and outfitted our newly-remodeled home to provide luxury care to the elderly. We know what it is like to watch the health of a loved one decline and have been trained to make this natural part of life easier for both our residents and their families. We prioritize the comfort of our residents, provide exceptional meals, and plan interactive activities. Family members are highly encouraged to visit, and we enjoy hosting the intimate events that are special to our residents. Our goal: To allow you peace of mind, freedom from worry, and ease your stress during a transitional time full of difficult choices and emotions. We strive to eliminate unnecessary discomfort for our residents. Because here at the John Charles Adult Family Home, our residents aren’t just admitted into a facility, they are admitted into our family.

Who is John Charles?

John was born July 10, 1939 in Spokane, Washington. Since his early childhood, he had a fascination with flying and airplanes, motivating him to get his pilot's license at the young age of fourteen. He joined the Navy where he flew anything he could, but specifically the Grumman S-2 off the USS Bennington before and during the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge from the Military he became a commercial pilot with Northwest Airlines. John was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He was intrigued by the more esoteric ideas and concepts of the scientific world. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, John's testimony buoyed him and helped him lead his family in strength and love.
